Troop Leaders

The committee members need to maintain a list of registered adults who have completed BSA training so we can accurately fill out tour permits and be covered by BSA guidelines.

At the very least each active registered adult leader who attends outings must complete Youth Protection Training with updates every two years.  This is an online course that prints out a receipt that should be provided to the troop for our records.

Additional BSA training available to registered adults include safety afloat, safe swim defense and climb on safely (only offered at summer camp) . These can also be taken on line or at summer camp with a print out documenting its completion.

Also offered online is Boy Scout Leader Fast Start which is a good introduction to the scouting way which all leaders should be familiar with. This is particularly insightful for those of us who were not boy scouts.

For the Troop Committee there is an online course entitled Troop Committee Challenge which provides good insight into how the committee operates.

All these courses can be found at the following link: http://olc.scouting.org/index.html  or by clicking on the quick links to the right.

In addition the troop needs leaders certified in CPR and First Aid which are not provided on-line. These are courses through the local red cross or fire departments. It is required that the troop have CPR and First Aid certified people for high adventure trips.

If you have completed any of these courses and/or are holding any certifications, please make a copy of your certificate and give to the Advancement Chairperson so you can be entered into our system.

If you are listed on Troop13's Charter as an adult leader then you need to take these courses. Your BSA # is necessary in order to log on, which is on the leadership cards that are handed out annually.  If you can't locate your card, you can contact the Advancement Chairperson to obtain your membership number.

We encourage every adult leader to read Connecticut Scouter Newsletter. Click here to sign up to receive on-line.
